What to do when there are people who hoard more loafs of bread than would have fed hundreds of other hungry people?

Updated: Apr 23

This is a problem that currently exists due to the evolution of money; from bartering to paper money.

The debt problem (in all countries) would have not reached to this level had the global economic system allowed for a fairer distribution of wealth.

Governments borrow to protect their vulnerable citizens to have equal access to services.

What else could governments do when the free-market economy failed to provide housing, education, training, and adequate income to cover the cost of living?

If this hoarding economic model persists, it is inevitable to increase pay rates. Then print more money when interest rates fail to restrain inflation. Then a recession and deflation ensue, to complete the economic cycle of boom-and-bust.

What is an alternative to the current economic model?

The answer lies in the story of the manna. According to the Hebrew Bible, Exodus 16:1–36, the Israelites were instructed to gather only enough manna for each day. Stored manna would breed worms and stink, except for what was stored the day before the Sabbath.

The feeding of the 5,000, as described in the gospel of John, also demonstrated this effect. Five loaves and two fish supplied by a boy not only fed and satisfied 5,000 people but also added twelve baskets of leftovers.

Collecting enough bread for one’s daily need, instead of hoarding, would lead to more productive and cooperative societies, where people are satisfied and fulfilled; instead of greedy, worrisome, and quarreling.

It is for this reason that it was written, "Give us our daily bread”, and “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21).

Whether people like it or not, evolving our system of economy to gather no more than one's daily needs is the only sustainable future for humanity.
